Don’t miss this opportunity to meet your favorite Ohio Author. Join us for our Boo Bash on Saturday, October 19th at Crossroads branch from 11AM-1PM. All princesses and superheroes, ghosts and fairies, pumpkins and witches are invited to join us for a carnival of fun! We would like to thank the Friends of the Guernsey County Library for all their support. The Friends will have two Book and Bake sales this Fall season. Assistant Director’s Spotlight It is such an honor and privilege to serve the Guernsey County community. We have so many wonderful programs in store for all ages this fall, including the Ohio Author Festival, Boo Bash, and the Dicken's Victorian Village Grand Opening Reception. We will also be hosting a 120th Birthday Party for the Downtown Carnegie Branch of the Guernsey County District Public Library. This is just a small representation of the many programs that you will find within the pages of this newsletter. So if you are looking for your next favorite book or movie, or just want to experience a fun and engaging library program, we hope that you will stop in at any of our three library locations and bookmobile or connect with us on social media. ADULT PROGRAMS PAGE 6 Historic Walking Tour: 4 Corners of the Courthouse Saturday, September 7th 11:00 a.m. Downtown Branch Library The courthouse square, together with its surrounding streets and businesses, has been a busy hub of Cambridge activity ever since the town's founding more than two centuries ago. Around the square, buildings have come and gone -- a jail here, a town hall there. Presidents visited and spoke. Nearby fires changed the streetscape. There's plenty of history to be found in a simple walk around the block! Tour starts at the Downtown Branch of the Guernsey County District Public Library and is led by Rick Booth. Pressure Canner Lid Testing Monday, September 16th 9AM- 1PM Crossroads Branch Library Presented by Caitlin Mathews-Smith, OSU Extension Educator Testing dial gauge pressure canners for accuracy and perform safety checks on any pressure canner. Ohio Author Festival Saturday, September 21st 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Prichard Laughlin Civic Center Join us as we welcome authors from all across the great state of Ohio. Guest speakers include Cinda Williams Chima, Natalie D. Richards, and Shelley Shepard Gray. Storytimes will be presented by youth authors Kate Hoefler, Merrill Rainey, Michelle Houts, and local author Steve Schubert. ADULT PROGRAMS Staff Book Recommendations PAGE 7 Historic Walking Tour: The Founders Cemetery Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m. Downtown Branch Library The first cemetery established in Cambridge lies just a block away from the courthouse next to the new Southgate Parkway bridge. There, from 1806 to the end of the 1850s, just before the Civil War, most of the town founders and its earliest citizens were buried. Rediscover the men and women who came from the Isle of Guernsey to help build a new county in the wilderness. The gravestones have stories to tell! Tour starts at the Downtown Branch of the Guernsey County District Public Library, and will be led by Rick Booth. Adult Halloween Party: Sleepy Hollow Revisited Tuesday, October 29th at 6PM Byesville Branch Library Living Historian and Storyteller, Christopher Hart, will join us at the Byesville Branch Library and entertain us with his twist on the beloved classic, Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In his take on the story, he hopes to answer the question of what really happened to Ichabod Crane. This is sure to be a great event of Literature come to life. We will have light refreshments, creepy snacks, and spooky prizes. Costumes are not required, but they are encouraged.
